Massive inferno after oil train crashes in North Dakota

Massive inferno after oil train crashes in North Dakota
A huge cargo train has exploded into flames after a collision in the US state of North Dakota.
Two trains – one of which was one-and-a-half kilometres long and carrying crude oil – collided sparking huge flames and sending a plume of thick black smoke into the sky.
Eye witnesses reported hearing two explosions. There are no reports of any injuries but hundreds of residents at the nearby town of Casselton have been evacuated.
A spokeswoman for the emergency services in North Dakota said at least 50 wagons of the train had been uncoupled, but another 56 remained at risk.

The collision reportedly happened near an ethanol plant – a highly volatile and flammable liquid.
It is the latest in a string of incidents which have raised alarm over the rise in crude oil traffic on the railways. According to figures released in North Dakota there was an increase of 67 percent between October 2012 and 2013 in oil transportation by rail.
Earlier this year 47 people were killed when a train carrying oil was derailed in Quebec.

“My son won’t give me the remote control.” - Top 10 worst 911 calls for 2013

A list of 2013’s most absurd 911 emergency calls has been released by E-Comm, the regional emergency communication centre responsible for handling southwest B.C.
E-Comm 911 call-taker Matthew Collins took the worst call of the year when someone called 911 wanting to rent a fire truck for a street party.
"What people don’t realize is that when they call 911 for information or any other reason that is not an emergency, they’re tying up valuable resources that are meant to be at-the-ready for people who are in serious need of help,” said Collins in a statement released on Monday morning.

Chizoba Anya, a Nigerian lady, has excreted wraps of substance that tested positive for methamphetamine on-board a Qatar Airline Flight from Malaysia to Nigeria, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said on Monday.
NDLEA said the 32-year old suspect was said to have aroused suspicion following her frequent visits to the toilet.

NDLEA commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Hamza Umar, said that the suspect while under observation excreted two additional wraps.
“The suspect was found with three wraps which she excreted in the aircraft. While she was under observation at the Lagos airport, she excreted two additional wraps of drugs. The five wraps which tested positive for methamphetamine weighed 80 grammes,” Umar said.
Preliminary investigation also revealed that the suspect left Ghana where she ingested the drugs to Malaysia.
“In Malaysia, she was denied entry and made to board another flight back to Nigeria. She started excreting the drugs at the airport in Malaysia,” NDLEA said.
The agency quoted the suspect as saying in her statement that she was offered half a million naira to smuggle the drugs to Malaysia.

Uduaghan, at a symposium organised by Warri Rebirth Initiative in Warri, said the BRT lanes would start from Effurun Roundabout and terminate at NPA in Warri.

The governor added that construction work on Jakpa Roundabout, Hausa Quarters and Cemetery Road Junction would commence in January as part of his administration’s commitment to urban renewal.
The theme of the event was The Future of Warri and its Environs. The governor said that it was time for the people of Warri to unite and build a stronger and better Warri devoid of ethnic differences.

He said: “Before, we hardly knew those from Urhobo, Itsekiri or Ijaw. Today, it sounds offensive to refer to Warri and Effurun without including the neighbouring communities.
“Warri rebirth will go a long way to address some of those challen-ges, where we will see ourselves as one entity.”

INVESTIGATION: Lagos hospital where corpses are left to rot ...

Morticians wash bodies in the open
In utter disregard for human dignity, decency and well-being of the public, morticians at the Ikorodu General Hospital wash bodies in the open with water fetched in battered old plastic buckets, a PREMIUM TIMES investigation has found.

When PREMIUM TIMES visited the mortuary, many of the bodies, carelessly kept in an unrefrigerated shipping container, were already decomposing – fluid from the bodies kept in the upper cabinets was dripping freely on the bodies below. One bereaved husband, who had to remove the body of his wife due to the shabby way it was handled, described seeing a body so badly decomposed that its head was almost severed from its body.
The Lagos State government says its vision for health in the state is to “attain excellence in health service delivery by applying best practices at all levels of care.”
However the state of the mortuary in Ikorodu can only represent the worst kind of health service delivery obtainable.

The general filth and the smell of decaying bodies that pervades the area is a bazaar for swarm of flies. Visitors also fear the mortuary portends a serious health concern to the environment as well as workers, patients and other inhabitants of the area in and around the hospital. For instance, the hospital’s canteen and catering services department is just few metres from the makeshift mortuary.

75-year-old Man Dies After Sex With Prostitute

A 75-year-old man, Ogueshi Nwoye (surname removed), resident in Ogbesuwe quarters in Asaba, Delta State, slumped and died at the weekend after an alleged marathon sex with a 21-year-old female school dropout at the same quarters.
LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the lady, popularly called “Lady P”, a renowned commercial sex worker, was sent out of school for poor academic performance, after failing to pass her JSS 3 exams several times.
LEADERSHIP checks revealed that her stock in trade was to seduce  more elderly men  into sex romps.
Sources said that Ogueshi Nwoye, one of her admirers, was challenged to a sex bout after parting with N5,000, a situation that led both into some rounds of sex, which left the man gasping for breath afterwards.
He slumped and was rushed to a nearby hospital by sympathisers, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Although DSP Charles Muka, the acting police spokesman in the state, said he was yet to get the report and could not confirm the story, an insider said that the police were working round the clock to curb avoidable deaths in the state. It was gathered that the young woman is at large presently.

HEARD ABOUT THE PLAN TO CHANGE NOLLYWOOD TO NAIWOOD?

The name Naiwood is really laughable. And Incase you're wondering where it sprang from; it's simply from NAIJA. Nai+wood=Nollywood. In an interview with Best of Nollywood, actor cum Producer, Yomi Fabiyi spoke at length about the name change and his opinion about the Nollywood at 20 celebration.

"At the inception of the name Nollywood, we all embraced it with open arms without even probing the source. As time went by, few flashes of some ill motives surfaced but one is careful raising an unfounded intentions until some set of people wish to celebrate Nollywood and think it is write to say its 20years just to promote a seemingly tribalistic intention. We have notable movie icons and veterans from all clans and tribes who are behind this and trust me they will be known much more later. But if you sample people's opinion, if they won't hide behind a finger, they will tell you Nollywood name is not a unifying factor and no government whatsoever should support such henceforth.

Discovery of Oil in Bauchi is False - Geologist

                           0905F03.Isa-Yuguda.jpg - 0905F03.Isa-Yuguda.jpg
The claim of oil or gas at the Benue trough in Bauchi State has been described as mere political statement rather than an economic fortune, a geologist in the state, Dahiru am Mohammed Kafi, has said.
“Where is the oil or gas in Bauchi State? What evidence do you have? I’m a professional and when you say there is something you have to show me evidence, there is no information whatsoever to indicate the quantity of oil or gas available in Bauchi State,” he queried.

According to him, you can find some quantity of oil or gas which is not economical to exploit, recalling that the last attempt to find oil in Bauchi State was between 15 to 20 years ago,
Kafi, however, admitted: “I pray that there is oil in Bauchi State and I pray also that we can get it. And there has been a lot of improvement in technology today where even in the Delta region, places that have been exploited before and found dry are today finding oil because new technology has been employed.”
Kafi in an interview with journalists in Bauchi, at the weekend, stressed the need for the use of new technology in the state oil discovery bid to ensure that whatever was achieved becomes a reality.
“There was a time we drilled one kilometer dept of well in Kumo looking for water, we didn’t find water but we found a thing that as a geologist made me feel that there is the possibility of getting oil in Bauchi State. I have a passion for this, I’m from Bauchi and will love to see oil in the state,” he revealed.
Kafi, who is also the Managing Director of Damagix Nigeria Limited/Oil and  Gas Services, hinged the success or otherwise of the oil finds in the North to northern leaders whom, he said, had been selected or elected to steer the ship of the region.

The Sokoto Government on Sunday announced plans to sponsor 200 students to pursue various degree programmes in Cyprus and Pakistan. Gov. Wamakko said that the students were expected to depart Sokoto for Cyprus and Pakistan in January 2014.
According to him, “the gesture is in addition to the over 1,000 students currently being sponsored by the state government in some universities within and outside the country.
“The gesture is part of our modest efforts to boost the human resources of the state. This is also in the bid to further enhance the development of the state and that of Nigeria, by extension.
“We will continue to accord priority to the education sector and provide equal opportunities for all indigenes to acquire quality education, within and outside the country,’’ the governor said.
He commended the members of the association for executing the projects and appealed to others to emulate them.

Michael Schumacher’s condition ‘deteriorated very rapidly’ after skiing accident

Michael Schumacher’s condition ‘deteriorated very rapidly’ after skiing accident
Michael Schumacher’s condition ‘deteriorated very rapidly’ after his skiing accident, doctors have said.
Medical experts, speaking at a press conference on Monday morning, said the former Formula One driver would have died had he not been wearing a helmet.
They said the 44-year-old remains critical and in a coma, but refused to speculate on his prognosis.
One doctor said: “Michael Schumacher has a serious head trauma when he was admitted. His neurological state deteriorated very rapidly. He was transferred to Grenoble Hospital – when he arrived we realised he was in a serious condition.”
“A scan showed he had several bruises inside his skull. So we operated in order to reduce the internal pressure on the brain. But we saw unfortunately that there were other hemorrhages in his brain.”
Gerard Saillant, one of the leading neurologists in Paris and a friend of the star, said: “I’m worried, so is his wife and children. We’re all worried by his condition. The doctors are working very hard.”
Schumacher – he is considered an excellent skier – was with his 14-year-old son in the French Alps resort of Meribel when he fell.
Schumacher, widely regarded as the sport’s most successful driver, clocked up a record of 91 race victories and 105 podium finishes before leaving the sport last year. He won his titles with Benetton and Ferrari.

The Ivorian Popular Front, party of former President Laurent Gbagbo, has called for further postponement of the county’s national population census to ensure credibility and reliability.
This is contained in a statement by the party which was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria in Abidjan on Monday.
The government had announced that the exercise would hold between Nov. 4 and Dec. 3, 2013.
However, no official reason had been given by the government for its inability to carry out the exercise as scheduled.
The FPI said the call for further postponement was due to massive movement of Ivorian populations out of the country.

D'banj passed through my hands but he did nothing for me while i was down - OJB calls out D'banj in new intervew...

During an interview with Inspiration FM's Gloria Maduka post surgery, veteran music producer OJB Jezreel addressed controversy surrounding his donations, said celebs used it as competition and calls out Dbanj. Here's why he's unhappy with D'banj. During his fund raiser many months back, there were rumours that D'banj gave his former music producer N7m, a report that D'banj didn't deny. OJB says D'banj didn't give him a dime and was upset that he didn't try to set the record straight
"The most disappointing one for me is D'banj because he passed through my hands, he was trained under my tutelage. That is offensive. I don't care if you're with Kanye West, you can't forget your root. I won't call anybody else's name but I will call his because it hurts. His own hurts very deep. And he never tried to reach out to me. It's not like we parted on fighting terms.  He told me he had to go to London and he went. And when he came back it was Don Jazzy, and I said OK, that's fine. And what he did worked and I'm very proud of him, the love, that's why it hurts more. He should have come out to say no, I don't know why you people are saying all this, I didn't give OJB N7million, maybe a part of him felt embarrassed because at the end of the day, really, are you not supposed to do something?" OJB says during the interview
He also talked about how people used his fund raiser as competition and once again addresses the bounced cheques. Continue....
