Court stops FRSC’s arrest of drivers over new licence

                                        FRSC
The Abuja Division of Federal High Court, yesterday, stopped the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, from imposing new drivers and vehicle licence on car owners whose vehicle registration papers are still valid.
Delivering judgment in a suit filed by an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Mr. John Musa, Justice Ademola Adeniyi declared as “unconstitutional and a clear example of an act of executive recklessness” threat by FRSC to start arresting car owners across the country for failing to obtain the new driver’s licence, notwithstanding the validity of their present licence.

The plaintiff had instituted the action last year shortly after the FRSC fixed October 1, 2013 as the date it would commence the arrest of car owners that failed to obtain the new licence.
Equally joined as a defendant in the suit was its Corp Marshal and Chief Executive, Mr. Osita Chidoka.
The defendants, in a preliminary objection against the suit sought its dismissal for want of competence, even as they challenged the locus standi of the plaintiff.
It was their contention that the plaintiff failed to establish any reasonable cause of action against them.

Footballer dies after horror tackle during Indonesian Premier League match

A footballer has died from the injury he suffered on the pitch following a horror challenge during an Indonesian Premier League match.

Persiraja striker Akli Fairuz (in orange) was injured after taking a boot to the body from PSAP Sigli goalkeeper Agus Rahman as the pair raced for the ball in the area.

Players, clearly incensed by the tackle, clashed on the pitch while the referee had to be moved away by security.

Fairuz was substituted but managed to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines. However, the attacker later took a turn for the worse and had to be admitted to hospital. It was soon discovered that Fairus had suffered bladder leakage and, a few days after the match, passed away from his internal injuries. Sad. May his soul rest in peace. Italian Women in Love with Priests Write Pope Francis Asking him to End Celibacy & Please Let Them Marry

Twenty-six Italian women who claim to be having affairs with priests have written to Pope Francis begging him to lift the Catholic clergy's vow of celibacy. In an extraordinary letter addressed to His Holiness, the unnamed women say they are just a 'small sample' of believers being forced to 'live in silence' because of their relationship.
The letter starts:
'Dear Pope Francis, we are a group of women from all over Italy (and further afield) and are writing to you to break down the wall of silence and indifference that we are faced with every day. Each of us is in, was or would like to start a relationship with a priest we are in love with.'
The 26 women signed with just their name and the initial letter of their surname, plus the name of their hometown, but they did write their surnames and telephone numbers on the envelope.

The letter continues:

Nigerian Unemployed graduates to receive N19k monthly allowance?

That's what a committee at the on-going National Conference is suggesting...for all unemployed graduates in Nigeria to earn a monthly allowance equivalent to the allowance of members of the National Youth Service Corps, which is N19,800.

Punch reports that the conference’s Committee on Law, Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Reform made the recommendation but it can only fall through if it's accepted by the Federal Government.

A member of the committee said the recommendation was one of the ways the committee members felt that crime could be reduced in the country. He told Punch;
"The recommendation is our own way of finding solutions to the rising wave of crime in the country and to also force the government to do the needful for the increasing number of unemployed graduates in the country. We have done our part and it is left for the delegates to either reject or accept it at plenary.”
I have a feeling FG won't be interested in this. Who thinks it's a good idea?

Health Zone: Beware! Pregnancy after 35 years may put you at risk

                                       women
Pregnancy in the body is a traumatic event especially if the body is aging. According to medical experts, there are certain problems more apt to occur when childbearing is delayed. Achieving pregnancy may be more difficult for many reasons.
Due to aging, which can affect a woman’s eggs, pregnancy after 35 carries a higher risk of having a baby with genetic abnormalities.
The biggest obstacle for women age 35 or older may be getting pregnant in the first place. Fertility rates begin to decline gradually at age 30, more so at 35, and markedly at age 40. Even with fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization, women have more difficulty getting pregnant as they age.

Women also have more trouble staying pregnant as they get older: The rates of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy go up substantially with age.
Even after you get pregnant, age continues to have an effect. The older you are when you get pregnant, the more likely you are to have a chronic disease, such as high blood pressure or diabetes that may be undiagnosed and can affect your pregnancy.
First-time pregnancy after age 35 may have normal pregnancies, but research indicates that these women are at increased risk of having a cesarean delivery, when the newborn is delivered through a surgical incision in the mother’s abdomen, delivery complications, including excessive bleeding during labour, prolonged labour (lasting more than 20 hours), labour that does not advance and an infant with a genetic disorder, such as Down syndrome,

Studies have also shown that high blood pressure, diabetes and problems with the placenta are a few conditions that are more likely to develop in older women during pregnancy.
