Cholera claims 10 lives in Kano •300 hospitalised

                       

TEN people have lost their lives to cholera outbreak in Kano State while about 300 people have been hospitalised in various local government areas in the state.
As a result of the outbreak,  the state government has appealed to residents of the state to report any case of Gastroenteritis to the nearest hospital for quick response in order to control the outbreak, which recently resurfaced in the state.
Sunday Tribune gathered that most of the victims in the metropolis were taken to the government-owned Zana hospital, and of the large number of patients on admission, some of them were allegedly put on the floor.

A Deputy Director at the state’s Ministry of Health, Dr. Tijjani Hussein, who confirmed the outbreak to newsmen, said the situation was getting out of hands, adding that the hospital alone could not accommodate the number of patients brought in.
Dr Hussein, who disclosed that some cases were not cholera, however advised people to rush their relatives who were vomiting or passing stool to the nearest hospital.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf also urged people of the state to as a matter of urgency report any case of cholera outbreak to nearest hospitals  for quick response.
He stated this while speaking with health workers on the need to step up effort to ensure that the situation was brought under control.
Speaking on the commissioner’s behalf, the Deputy Director, Public Health and Disease Control, Tijjani Hussain, urged people to always observe personal and environmental hygiene in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
Dr Yusuf further appealed to relatives of the cholera victims to desist from visiting them while in the hospital to avoid contracting the disease.
It would be recalled that cholera outbreak claimed 10 lives in Nasarawa and Dala local government areas of the state, while 70 persons were hospitalised during the week.
