A lone gunman on Sunday shot dead Ismaila Atanda, the eldest son of Oluganna, Oba Kolawole Atanda, a traditional ruler in Ganmo community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Though, the identity of the assailant is yet unknow, it is suspected that the murderer might be one of the opponents of the monarch.
A source told journalists in Ilorin on Monday that the assailant shot at the middle aged man while he was driving his car along a street leading to his father’s palace at about 6.30pm on Sunday.
The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the gunshot hit the deceased in a side of his face, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, and the vehicle consequently somersaulted many times.
Though, the prince was later rushed to a private hospital, he reportedly died on Monday morning in the hospital.
Our correspondent gathered that following the shooting, tension had enveloped the Ganmo and Ganna communities.
To forestall any breakdown of law and order and public peace, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Agboola Oshodi-Glover was said to have deployed some policemen in the area.
Oshodi-Glover confirmed the killing of the Prince to journalists.
