Tension as hoodlums attack Senator’s office in Ogun

Tension gripped residents of Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State as suspected political thugs on Thursday attacked and vandalised the constituency office of Senator Akin Odunsi located in the area.
Odunsi was among the National Assembly members from the state, who narrowly escaped being shot by suspected hoodlums at Wasimi in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state last Thursday.
The suspected thugs, identified as loyalists of a faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state and said to be armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, allegedly attacked and injured one Kemi Afolabi said to be working as secretary in Odunsi’s constituency office.

Afolabi, who is said to have been injured, is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Ota.
After their attack on Odunsi’s secretary, the hoodlums allegedly ransacked the lawmaker’s office and damaged various equipment before fleeing the scene.
The incident, which was the third political violence in the state in the past three weeks, occurred barely 24 hours after the intervention of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in the festering crisis rocking the APC in the state.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspected hoodlums operating in an unmarked private car stormed Senator Odunsi’s office located opposite AUD High School, Iganmode road, Ota at about 9.15am and beat up all those found in the office.
The supporters of the Senator were however said to have mobilised themselves for a reprisal, heightening the tension in the area.
The quick intervention of policemen, led by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ota, Gabriel Idibie, brought the situation under control.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, had already visited the scene to assess the situation.
